I’m excited to share that the latest version of Appvestr® includes an Appvestr® Portfolio and Analysis. The Appvestr® Portfolio is simply a set of publicly traded companies who make the apps you have installed on your device. The free Appvestr® app automatically discovers this portfolio in under two minutes.
Appvestr®’s new visualizations include:
- A Portfolio Allocation visualization (pie chart), so you can see the allocation of what publicly traded companies make your device’s apps.
- An Investment Breakdown summary of those same stocks discovered by Appvestr®.
My personal history here is that I took $2 and invested in each stock in the portfolio several years ago and you can review performance here. Naturally, $2 doesn’t buy you a whole share of nearly anything, but with support from a fractional-share investment institution, you can begin your investing journey. For experienced investors, well, there’s nothing like investing in products you have or use, and Appvestr® discovers this portfolio for you!
Here’s a quick video tour of Appvestr® and you’ll notice the resulting Portfolio Allocation is heavy on GOOG (Alphabet), but this is to be expected as Appvestr® only runs on Android devices, so several Google apps are likely to be found. Your device’s manufacturer may also weigh in heavily from all their apps. For my portfolio, while you’ll not see Samsung as it is an OTC traded stock in the USA the fact is that some fractional-share investment houses don’t support all OTC equities. I hope you find this useful!
Stock News
In recent stock news, Allegiant Airlines (3.3 star rating) announced it will acquire Sun Country Airlines (3.6 star rating) with a possible close date later this year. It will be interesting to see how the “app battle” shakes out based on the aforementioned ratings! Almost 15 years ago, Southwest acquired AirTran and the company didn’t decomission the AirTran app until three years later. There are similar consolidation stories when acquisitions happen as there’s a cost to maintaining two consumer-facing mobile apps:
- Truist’s revamp of their mobile app from the SunTrust and BB&T merger,
- Marriott and Starwood, which led us to the Bonvoy app. (I had the pleasure to help the Marriott developers accelerate their debugging and bug reporting in a precursor to the Bonvoy app).
On a smaller scale (5K downloads of their reward mobile app), R.P. Lumber Co., Inc. announced the acquisition of Indiana-based Bender Lumber, with the deal expected to close on February 13, 2026.
