For first time visitors, Appvestr® automatically discovers a portfolio of stocks right under your thumbs that are made by publicly traded companies. In under a minute, you can “Take stock in brands that you use!” With that commercial out of the way, let’s get on to the newsletter:
The first “Space+balls” news item this month is SpaceX’s IPO which as a friend reminded me, may already be in your mutual fund portfolios as institutional access typically leads before individual access. And yes, SpaceX makes only one android app: Starlink.
Now let’s address the “+balls”: Group play is underway in the FIFA Men’s World Cup! Per Yahoo Finance’s reporting, 19 US companies and their stocks are on a list of possible World Cup winners. When we explore apps made by these companies, the “bracket” actually expands as most are consumer-oriented (beverages, jerseys/sporting goods, dining) each often with multiple branded apps. They include:
- Constellation Brands (STZ), offers the CBI Now on Google Play, which is designed for the beverage brand enthusiasts and employees to stay connected with company news, events, and brand culture
- Coca-Cola (KO), has three apps on Google Play.
- PepsiCo (PEP), several Google Play apps that are most business not consumer focused.
- Dick’s Sporting Goods (DKS),
- Walmart (WMT), makes 15 Android apps including their 100M+ download shopping app
- McDonald’s (MCD), publishes two apps a conference app and their mobile ordering experience.
- Domino’s Pizza (DPZ), has their mobile ordering experience and several other country-specific apps.
- Wingstop (WING), who went public in 2015 has a mobile ordering app.
- BJ’s Restaurants (BJRI),
- Darden Restaurants (DRI), has several apps for their brands: Olive Garden, LongHorn Steakhouse, Cheddars, BahamaBreeze, Seasons52 and more.
- Brinker International (EAT), owns Chilis restaurants
- Texas Roadhouse (TXRH),
- Google (GOOGL, GOOG), clearly several apps including YouTube for game highlights
- Meta (META),
- Uber (UBER),
- DoorDash (DASH),
- DraftKings (DKNG), went public in 2020 and has several apps and
- Marriott (MAR).
Not on the above list, but I often use the ESPN app (owned by Disney) to check the scores and brackets.
If you’ve got any of these apps installed, it likely means you use them. A famous investor once stated that if you like/use a product, you should buy stock in that company. Appvestr® simply discovers those same apps you use and shows you your Appvestr® portfolio. I’ve personally done this and invested only $1, $2, or $5 in those stocks with a fractional share investment company like Robinhood.
